MOVIE NEWS: After Dark Horrorfest 4

After Dark Horrorfest 4 was released in theatres yesterday. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and won't get the chance to see the films in the theatre and will have to wait for the DVD releases. But hopefully you get the chance to see them, and if you do, let me know what you think. Judging by these trailers, they all look interesting.

Dread

Dread, the second in the Book of Blood franchise is a stylish horror/thriller about three college students working on a documentary for school focusing on what others dread in life.



The Final

After receiving a lake-house granted to him in his uncle’s will, Dane and his friends, Jack, Ravi, Andy and Emily prepare for a single night that will leave their tormentors scarred for life…physically and emotionally.



The Graves

On their last weekend together, two girls are lost in a remote part of the Arizona desert where they are lured to Skull City Mine, an abandoned mine town. But they soon learn Skull City is anything but abandoned, and there’s no way out.



Hidden

A man unwillingly returns to the small town he ran from 19 years ago. His cruel mother has recently died, and left him the house he grew up in and soon is entangled up in a series of events that seem beyond anyone’s control….

ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction

A conservative island community is under attack! Port Gamble, WA is being overrun with braineaters, and a rag tag band of rebels try to turn the tide and push the invading hoards of undead back.

MOVIE NEWS: Offspring

Oh. My. God. I have never been so excited for a movie in my life. They have finally made Jack Ketchum's Offspring into a film. I don't know why they chose Offspring, which is a sequel, instead of the first book Off Season, but it was a good book as well. If I could pick one book to make into a movie it would be Off Season or Offspring by Jack Ketchum. And now it's actually happening! It will be released on DVD on October 6. I can't wait! Here's what it's about:

Survivors of a feral flesh-eating clan are chowing their way through the locals. Amy Halbard and Claire Carey strive to survive their abduction by the cannibals and save their children. A subplot involving Claire's despicable husband, Steven, gives an opportunity to cleverly compare predatory civilized folk to the appetite-driven primitives.

MOVIE NEWS: Horror Classics Coming to DVD

Three awesome horror classics are finally going to be released on DVD, Night of the Creeps, The Stepfather and Happy Birthday to Me.

Night of the Creeps

This is one of my favourite horror movies of all time and I can't wait to get it on DVD. I have a crappy copy of it that I taped off of T.V years ago and now I'll finally get to watch it without having to fast forward through commercials. It will be released October 20.

In this campy chiller, a college couple, in 1959, see an object plummet to Earth like a meteor. The boy accidentally swallows a space-slug that shoots out. In 1986, two freshmen roam the campus and stumble across the corpse of the boy who swallowed the space-slug. Once thawed out, the corpse comes to life.


The Stepfather

With the remake opening on October 16, the original is being released on DVD a few days before, on October 13. The special features on the DVD include a commentary with director Joseph Ruben and The Stepfather Chronicles, a retrospective featuring interviews with people involved in the making of the film.

Jerry Blake (Terry O Quinn, Lost) is a man obsessed with having the perfect American Dream life: including the house with the white picket fence in the suburbs, an adoring wife and loving children. He believes he has found it when he marries Susan Maine and becomes the stepfather to her 16-year-old daughter, Stephanie. But Stephanie gets an uneasy feeling when she is around Jerry with his Father Knows Best attitude: she can see that there is a darker side behind his cheerful exterior. Could she just be going through the typical teenager rebellion against her new stepfather, or is he actually the same man who brutally murdered his family just one year earlier?


Happy Birthday to Me

This slasher is already on DVD, but they changed the soundtrack for it. Now it's going to be released on October 13 with the original soundtrack. I reviewed this a few weeks back and thought it was one of the most original slashers I've ever seen.

Happy Birthday to Me stars my namesake Melissa Sue Anderson (my parents liked Little House on the Prairie) as a young woman who finally fits in at her snotty school, Crawford Academy, gaining acceptance into the most exclusive clique the "Top 10." But being in the group isn't all it's cracked up to be since someone is offing them, one by one.

MOVIE NEWS: Jennifer's Body Trailer

The trailer for Diablo Cody's new film Jennifer's Body just came out. I think it looks hilarious and I can't wait for it to come out. Especially since I loved Juno. And Adam Brody (from The O.C.) is in it!

Here's the plot: A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?

MOVIE NEWS: Ghost House Underground

Ghost House Pictures, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's horror production company, launches a new franchise today, Ghost House Underground. In the past, Ghost House Pictures have released such films as The Grudge series, Boogeyman and 30 Days of Night. Their next picture Drag Me to Hell, will be released May 29, 2009, and is directed by Sam Raimi and stars Alison Lohman and Justin Long.

Now, they have partnered with Grindstone Entertainment Group to delve into the direct-to-video horror market. Today they release eight films, available in a boxed set or individually.

Brotherhood of Blood - Two brothers unleash a super vampire and a clan of vampire hunters realize the only way to defeat him is to team up with other vampires. Starring Sid Haig and Ken Foree.

Dance of the Dead - On prom night, radiation from the local power plant brings the dead to life. And the only ones who can stop it are the nerds of the high school.

Dark Floors - A father decides the hospital his autistic daughter is in doesn't provide enough care, and sneaks her out. But when the elevator door opens, the hospital is empty - except for monsters.

The Last House in the Woods - A couple on a road trip is harassed by a group of punks who beat up the man and try to rape the woman. Fortunately, they're saved by a middle-aged couple who take them back to their home to recuperate. But the couple has a dark secret.

No Man's Land: The Rise of Reeker - Part prequel, part sequel to Reeker (2005), from the same director, Dave Payne. A sheriff and his son chase robbers, but are being chased by a reeker.

Room 205 - A girl moves into a dorm and learns a legend about the girl who was murdered in room 205. Supposedly she haunts the dorm.

The Substitute - Sixth graders think their substitute teacher is an alien but no one believes them.

Trackman - The Trackman, a deformed killer who prowls the subways, is after bank robbers and their hostages.
