More Book/DVD Buys

Yesterday, I went to a used bookstore in Barrie and bought 10 books for $20. Here's what I got:

Shadoweyes by Kathryn Ptacek
Blood Autumn by Kathryn Ptacek
Dreamland by Garfield Reeves-Stevens
Slugs by Shaun Hutson
Anthony Shriek by Jessica Amanda Salmonson
Deathbell by Guy N. Smith
Watchdog by Faith Sullivan
The Howling III by Gary Brandner
Carrion by Gary Brandner
The Surrogate by Nick Sharman

And then I went to the 400 Market, which is like a flea market, and got two DVD sets for $5 each :

Toxie's Triple Terror Vol. 2: Beyond Evil, Chillers and Evil Clutch
Toxie's Triple Terror Vol. 7: Mommy's Epitaph, Play Dead and Death by Dialogue

Has anyone read/seen any of these? If so, what did you think?

I remember the cover of "Chillers" from the rental store.
plus: "Slugs", haven't read the book but saw the movie which is extremely hilarious :)

Chillers is one of those movies that a lot of people remember but no one remembers the name of. They all remember the wraparound of the anthology but not it's name. Supposed to be really underrated.
I've got all of those DVDs, but they came through this thing Troma does where they take these three packs and throw them into a big bin. So I've got a metal "Blood Bank" with these 6 and a few more that I grabbed at a convention for 10 bucks. Also has...Nightfall, Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan(???), Nightmare Weekend, and Scream, Baby, Scream. Haven't watched any of them yet...I drown in movies I haven't watched, lol. Play Dead'll come up sooner or later. Takes forever with the day job and all.

Most of those are fairly rare though, I think. So good pickup!

Maynard - I didn't even know there was a movie made from it. I'll have to check it out when I'm done reading the book.

James - I'll have to watch Chillers first. Haha, you have them but you haven't watched them yet? You sound like me. I have at least 150 movies that I haven't watched yet. So who knows when I'll get around to watching these....

What's Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan about?

OH MY GOD! YOU GOT DEATHBELL!!!!

A bunch of us on the Rue Morgue forum have been looking for the Crab series by Guy N. Smith, if you ever come across it, that's some coveted stuff.

Great finds in the book department. Bra-friggin'-vo!

Melissa-

Quoting the back of the thin case:
"There's a new mouth in town! Academy Award Winner and Hollywood legend JACK PALANCE serves up the ominous humongous mood as narrator for Horror of the Hungry Humongous Hungan. Genetic experiments gone wrong unleash a masticating monster with an appetite for terror-an ancient voodoo curse that comes to life as a hideous, horrendous humongous, hungry creature of the netherworld-the Hungry Humongoug Hungan!"

I wonder if their copy guy got paid by the "H" that day.

Paperback Horror - Yeah, I've been looking for the Crab books too. That's why I picked up Deathbell, I thought maybe I would try another of his books and see if I liked it.

James - Haha, yeah holy "H". Well that sounds interesting.

Some great finds: in particular, DEATHBELL, THE SURROGATE, and SLUGS.

A great era for horror fiction.
